What’s Cookin’ ?

The Mountains are Calling

As always, I have many things cooking on the stove; but the majority of my focus is on this beautiful piece of apple wood that is about 3 feet long and is shaped like a mountain range. I won’t give away too many spoilers, but as you can see it will be highly detailed with abstract designs and that is only the background!

Manzanita Madness

A “little” side project that I am working on is this salvaged piece of manzanita. I was doing some volunteer work for a nature preserve and asked if I could take old manzanita off the trail. I processed it by cleaning, sanding, trimming, and then finishing it with linseed oil. Once my current project is done, I will begin adding the artwork to it. I am imagining that I will cover it in different animals and use the black holes as little galaxies. Stay tuned to see what happens!

Website Updates

As I have mentioned before, the new website is a work in progress. Since it went live, I have been correcting some minor bugs and adding to the gallery. I have also added another shipping option, free local delivery to the Inland Empire region. I will personally deliver the artwork to you!

Coming soon: Events page, where you can see a calendar of upcoming events, where I will be selling artwork. You will see dates, times, and other details.

Artist’s Lounge

Where artists past and present meet and ideas flow like rivers in the vast wilderness of imagination.

Trading, the original free market.

I like to make trades with other artists, crafters, and woodworkers; there is something primal about the concept of a trade, it reminds me of the old ways. It is also a great way to connect with people when something handmade is shared between them.

I recently made a trade with a friend of mine who makes jewelry out of minerals. I have a unique collection of rocks and since I lack the skill to wrap stones as well as her, I proposed a trade. So, I sent a box of rocks to Connecticut and in a few weeks, I received these amazing necklaces back!

The Muses

Muses are everywhere around me, from the natural world to the complex world of human psychology. Every month I will write about one of the muses that inspire me to create.

God’s Palette

An expansive palette of colors exists all around me and when I see a particular set of colors come together in a natural setting, it’s like a work of art. When I return from that hike or camping trip, I open my boxes of paint to find those colors and I create something as an homage to the scene I witnessed.

In the storm clouds I can find shades of periwinkle, lavender, midnight blue and charcoal grey.

In the desert there is sage and army green in the flora, brown umber in the Joshua tree trunk, silver grey in the rocks, and mahogany red in the manzanita bark.

In the dense mountain forest, there is campground and Kelly green in the pines, scarlet red in the Indian Paintbrush flower, indigo in the ripe elderberries, and tiger orange in the lichen.
